As all of you may heard from one fanatic or another, the world is supposed to end ~ according to some ancient Mayan calendar ~ on 12/21/12. I've heard various theories such as super high winds, catastrophic weather, aligning planets (this is a big one lately) and such. Just to give you some info... According to NASA, the planets won't align again for the next few decades, and the last three occurred in 1962, 1982, and 2000 ~ even if the planets did align, "their effects on Earth would be negligible."
So while the world may or may not end this month, it's not out of the realm of possibility for the world as we know it to come to an end one day. War, crumbling economies, revolutions... Things change and they very well drastically could again...
My husband and I talk about this sometimes... What we would do... We always end up in the deep woods of Northern Maine, away from other people, with lots of guns and ammunition... My hunny could survive anywhere ~ he used to teach it and live it, so I know we'd be okay...
Except for the lack of books ~ which brings me to our giveaway...
Since she'd been on the outside, she'd survived an Aether storm, she'd had a knife held to her throat, and she'd seen men murdered. This was worse.
Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland - known as The Death Shop - are slim. If the cannibals don't get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She's been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He's wild - a savage - and her only hope of staying alive.
A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile - everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria's help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.
If you had to escape your home in order to avert certain demise, a book about survival would probably be best... I don't have any nonfiction books on my shelf, so fictional characters overcoming a wasteland will have to do.. Under the Never Sky offers just that... then there's the entertainment factor, which can never be underestimated when your whole world is turned upside down... A little fun might keep you leveled...
Anyway... In case the world does end, I'm giving away a copy of Veronica Rossi's dystopian novel as a part of the End of the World Giveaway Hop hosted by I Am a Reader, Not a Writer and My Life With Books.

P.S. This giveaway is international, because hey, the world would end everywhere, not just in the U.S. :)

I'd use my skills learnt from survival books to survive
ReplyDeleteths for the giveaway
TBH, I'm not sure what I'd do. Cause if it's the end of the world there's no place to escape to. o__o
ReplyDeleteI study the Maya in university, and whenever someone mentions that the Mayan calendar has predicted out demise, I get irrationally angry because it says no such thing. Maybe I should stay off the internet for the next week :P
ReplyDeleteI will go with my family in a Caveau with books and food XD
ReplyDeleteI'd hide in my house and hope for the best!
ReplyDeleteI'd probably stay in my house with my books until the end XD
ReplyDeleteI live in my country's biggest city, so I'd probably try to catch a train out to my family in the countryside. We have a safe room (not that I think we'd need it) and they have canned food and wood for heating and stuff. Also, facing like 700 other crazy people sounds much better than facing like 200,000 or so of them. Then I'd probably read and be bored until all the idiots are done beating each others' heads in.
ReplyDeleteI'd hide!!! :P
ReplyDeleteI'd probably try to read as many books as I could and just hope I can survive.
ReplyDeleteI would try to survive and read alot of books! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI'd hide in my closet and read lol.

ReplyDeleteI would probably hide until the danger is over, lol! (=
ReplyDeleteI follow via GFC! :D
ReplyDeleteAnd the world isnt ending the Mayan calendar is circluar; therefore the circle is starting over (think of a clock striking midnight) its awesome bc instead of 24 hours like a clock its a 50 year long calendar. :) So ya, no end of the world...................as an anthropology major this is getting really annoying.
I'd probably be crazy as well. o.O LOL

I don't think that the world is going to end, but if it happens in the future (which I highly doubt) I will just let it happen. It doesn't seem like a good life after an apocalypse, you would be alone and fighting for your life everyday. It sounds horrible.
ReplyDeleteGFC: TiffanyLove
I'd snatch a survival book and head to my uncles were they got a an emergency food storage and get my hands on some weapons because people can be crazy and we'll need to protect ourselves.
ReplyDeleteIf the world does end a survival book would be great but fiction would help you escape for a while if you got some time to yourself...like if you can't sleep from all the craziness.
Thanks for the great giveaway!
I would hide in the closet with my family. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'll stay at home and watch the crazy from above... :D

There are supposed to be certain "safe" zones in the US--places to go when things fall apart. One if for natural disasters, the other if there is a revolution of some sort. My hubby has all that info, so I'm sticking with him!
ReplyDeleteI'd probably curl into a ball and hope that my crazy half doesn't loose itself upon the world (poor world) :)
ReplyDeleteI would hide away with my family and kindle!!!
ReplyDeleteI forbid the world to end!! I have way too many books on my TBR list!!

ReplyDeleteI'd probably hunker down and try to wait it out. We have lots of stockpiled food to live off of, so we'd be okay for a while.
