Q: What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?

uuuhmmmm... I'll just go with my first instinct 'cause that's usually the correct answer. Fallen by Lauren Kate. People seemed to flock toward and gush over this book, but I thought it was ... less than desirable. It's an international bestseller, but all I saw where gaping holes in her storyline and dozens of unanswered and forgotten questions. Love the ideas behind the books, just not how it was carried out...

Best cover? What is the best cover of a book you've read and didn't like?

This was an easy one...I'd have to say Fallen by Lauren Kate. This probably goes for the whole series. Gorgeous covers! And the story had such promise and potential...I wanted to love it, I really did, but Luce was beyond aggravating and there were so many unanswered questions and inconsistencies. Great idea, poor execution.

Fallen for Covers is a weekly meme hosted by Fallen Angels YA Book Blog every Sunday. This is when we cover whores (me, totally) get to share our obsession with cover art with a little gushing over a particular book.

**whew** That synopsis gives me goosebumps. And that cover... I don't know what it is, but I love it! The shadow of a girl filled with obstacle after obstacle ~ that's what I see. The color scheme is awesome too ~ very dark, but the gold hues add a glimmer of hope. Can't wait to have this little beauty on my shelf :).

And because I'm also mildly obsessed with trailers, here, for your viewing pleasure, is the book trailer for The Lost Girl.

Fallen for Covers

That's all well and true, but the cover is artwork in itself and draws us into the content. Mine was chosen after perusing the website an artist that's been mentioned in the book blogosphere. You can check out Phatpuppy Art, and see all the beautiful covers she has created. Pure talent!

**I love Amanda Hocking, and I can't resist a good story about witches. Throw in the sweetly designed cover, and I'm done for.**

In the small midwestern town of Honalee, Hazel Panning and her best friend Molly Novak are determined to get through her sophomore year in one piece, despite the vicious cheerleaders and Hazel's ridiculous crush on Landon Hooper.

Life gets more complicated when Hazel realizes that she has a penchant for sorcery, like her aunt. Her plans to stay under the radar take a detour when she and Molly stand up for themselves, and Hazel gets the courage to act on her feelings for Landon.

Hazel discovers that the sleepy town of Honalee isn't so sleepy, and magic doesn't make high school easier.

Why? The color scheme is gorgeous ~ purples and blues = magic ~ and it has that touch of classic witchiness. The spiderwebs and spindly trees in the background and the girl with a contrast of pale skin and dark clothing and hair illuminated by the lantern. Just completely eye-catching. Love it! That, and I'm a huge fan of Amanda Hocking :).

Oh, and you know how I love to include the trailer...

So, it wasn't really out in 2010. It was supposed to come out this year, but Amanda stated she wanted to rewrite the ending, so unfortunately, we might be waiting until 2014. So far away!! But I'm sure it'll be worth it :)

Booking Through Thursday

Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better...

Thursday is probably one of the better days of the week.. It's one day closer to the weekend ~ in other words we can see the light at the end of the long, dark tunnel.. 

Booking Through Thursday is a 'weekly meme about (mostly) books and reading..' 

This week's question asks:

Ever read a book you thought you could have written better yourself?

I'm working on a book, only have a couple of chapters (peace and quiet is a rare state of things in my house lately), and it's a blast to do. I'm not sure what it's like to get to the end, having hundreds of pages to organize and edit, but I'm quite positive it's not an easy task. That being said, I also think that if an author lives and breathes their story, it will come alive to the readers. There's one book that made absolutely no sense to me, a jumbled mess of dramatic events that hardly ever tied together... 

If I had been the editor Lauren Kate's Fallen series, I would have thrown the manuscript back at her and told her to get her thoughts organized. Maybe that's a little harsh... but she would write this whole mysterious, tragic event in Luce's life, leaving us wondering what really happened only to move on to the next tragic, self-inflicted mess, hoping we'd gasp in astonishment and forget all about our musings.. (*Clears Throat* Like Luce's first kiss who mysteriously died in flames and shadows instigated by Luce, sending her to the institution in the first place... what, how, why???? O but no one cares about that guy anymore because Daniel is supposed to give us enough to think about and drool over...) Nothing was ever resolved and romance was used to distract from the storyline (I'm a sucker for it too, but if it sacrifices a good story, it seems a little cheesy to me)..  As much as I had looked forward to it, I was so disappointed and found myself thinking of different ways the story could go that would make more sense... 

But you know what... she's published, I'm not.. So, as much as I'd like to, I really couldn't say that I would have written it better... 

(P.S. The sad thing is... I'll probably read the fourth book out of curiosity.. The series made me so mad mostly because it had such potential and I wanted it to be what it could have been!!! The idea was awesome, the execution, not so much... Why suffer through another? Because I'm hoping Lauren Kate will change my mind and I'll be ashamed of all my ranting...)
