This week’s musing asks…
Do you set goals for yourself, while reading? For example, “I want to get this book finished this weekend“, or “I will read __ pages today“, etc. Why, or why not?
I really try not to do this to myself ~ I want to remain in that place where I read for the joy of the story. BUT, since I've started this blog, I've started to make a reading schedule, thinking "I really need to get some more reading done this weekend..." It's something I try to avoid because I find that when I turn a hobby into a pressured obligation, it's not as much fun. Nothing would break my heart more than if reading wasn't fun for me anymore...
Happy Reading Everyone:)

I agree, sometimes blogging makes reading seem like a chore rather than something fun we enjoy.

I like your answer. Reading is supposed to be fun! I get enough deadlines at school, so I don't set them for reading.
ReplyDeleteI don't set a schedule, but I have a yearly goal. My Goodreads 2012 challenge goal is 400 books. I started blogging last month and it has really reduced my reading- I think I'm 11 books behind on my goal. But the tradeoff is that I've heard about- and read- some great books that I only learned about on someone's blog.
ReplyDeleteI probably should set some kind of schedule to plan to have some quiet reading time every day. Not a page count goal, but just time set aside each day for me to read.
Reading is what I wanna do. With or without goals!
ReplyDeleteHere is my post.
Few goals, no schedule, few commitments...I don't this to feel like a job!
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to keep a blog going without setting reading goals. I know what you mean :)

I always tell myself that I need to read, and actually it's all I ever want to do. My plans always change though, which is why I always have a book with me, just in case those plans change in the favor of reading.
ReplyDeleteI so totally agree with you! Sometimes I wish I never committed myself to reviewing. I want to get back to reading for the joy of it and I'm hoping that will happen for me soon.
