Feature and Follow Friday

Feature and Follow is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read ~ this is that time of week when we get to know each other a little better, make new friends, and form new blogging connections.

This week's question:

Q: If you could choose one supernatural being/creature to really exist what would it be and why??

Wow.. um... The thing with supernatural creatures is that their traits all vary from story to story... In one fateful tale, everything they do can be copacetic and in others they are the epitome of evil.. So how do we choose? The first thing that comes to mind is usually the right answer...

I'm was going to go with vampires...  But while I think they were created out of human desires ~ to be strong, fast, and invincible, among other things ~ I also think they are incredibly selfish, severely lack any self control, and seem to be a little whacked in the head for the most part...

Based on where I live (in the woodsy parts of Maine), I keep kinda leaning toward werewolves. They aren't exactly innocent, but for the most part, they are still human and do all they can to hold on to that side of themselves. They don't take life for granted, being mortal, and to end a life usually brings about an overwhelming sense of guilt. They have a conscience, and while they are supernatural, there is a part of them that is also human and thoroughly redeemable.

Happy Reading Everyone :)

  8. Thanks for the comment on my blog. Here I return it! :)

Modern vampires definitely have a wishfulfilment element to them (see the Twilight vampires and their practical perfection). The original vampires of folklore, however, generally come from a fear of the unknown (in this case, decomposition) and that the dead did not stay dead. While lots of areas have vampire (or vampire-like) creatures, they varied quite a lot. For example, have you heard of vampire pumpkins? I kid you not.

It was in the 19th century, with works of fiction such as The Vampyre, Varney the Vampire, Carmilla and finally Dracula that really set off the romantic element that modern vampire stories have today.

And there's your little vampire history lesson. :) Can you tell I'm a vampire nerd?

I picked the Brownie as I wanted to be specific. Choosing just "the fae" would let in so many problems - I wouldn't want to deal with murdeous Red Caps, would you?

It's so cool you live in Maine. One of my novels-in-progress is set there. I'd love to visit. :)

  10. That is a great response Keely. Werewolves are probably depicted as being closer to humans in nature than most superantural beings.
